Are Tahitian Women Still Willing to Have Sex on Demand?

In the various versions of "Mutiny on the Bounty," we are informed that the Tahitian women are happy to have sex with any man whenever he might want to engage in that activity, and, in fact, are insulted if the man refuses. I am wondering whether that part of the movie is true, and if so, do Tahitian women still behave that way? If they once did, and no longer do, what led them to stop?
